Workout Metronome does the counting for you when doing repetitive exercises, such as sit-ups.
Workout Metronome allows you to set the number of sets, repetitions in each set the interval between repetitions the hold time and the rest time after each set and the number of seconds before a set starts to notify you. A different sound will mark every 10th repetition and the completion of a set.
Note that while the metronome is ticking the auto-off timer is off.

This program works on Clie NX60 OS5 -- very stable. It is effective for exactly what it was programmed to be: a workout metronome. The screenshot tells it all. The settings are excellent to make modifications for different exercises. Use the "Save" button to save one default setting. The only setting the program needs is a volume setting. And a minor annoyance is the program's title screen that is shown everytime the program is launched.
