Description:
Avvenu is a free service with optional premium features that lets business users and consumers securely access their office and home computers directly from a web-enabled mobile phone, PDA or computer – giving users secure remote access to all of their documents, music collections and images.
The Guaranteed Access premium feature lets users access their important files even if their computer is offline or turned off.
The My Media Play feature lets users play their MP3 and WMA music files from PC to PC, or from PC to any handheld device equipped with Windows Mobile 5.0.
In addition to accessing their own content, Avvenu users can quickly and securely share access to their content with colleagues, friends and family.
The recipients do not even need to be members of the Avvenu service in order to view the content shared with them.
There are no limits on the size of images or files that can be shared.
Update Description:
Avvenu 2.2 was released on September 6, 2006:
- With improvements to Guaranteed Access and My Media Play. Guaranteed Access is a paid premium feature that allows you to access your files, even if your computer is offline or turned off!
- Currently, with Avvenu's free service, you have access to your files only as long as your computer is online.
- But with Guaranteed Access, all of your most important content is accessible, anytime, anywhere, from any internet-connected computer or mobile device.
- While Guaranteed Access is a paid feature, My Media Play is a free benefit for all Avvenu users!
- With My Media Play, you can access your entire music collection of MP3 and WMA music files stored on your computer -- and play those tunes on any other computer or Windows Mobile 5 device.

Works well, and it's really free too, but it isn't the fastest way to download files from your PC. SMBmate is free as well, and it's much faster. Have to admit that this one can launch certain files directly from your C: drive (if associated with an app on your handheld), while SMBmate can't do that.
