Description:
SiEd is a simple text editor for Palm OS® -based handhelds.

Its purpose is to provide an easy way to create and edit large text documents without the limitations of the built-in Memopad program.

SiEd will create and edit both DOC and plain text files (on memory cards), provides a split-screen view to allow two documents to be edited at once and provides most of the editor features you would expect from a desktop text editor.

Update Description:
SiEd v0.9.11:

  • Fixes a few bugs and adds a "Read Only" mode.
  • The main bug fixes are for truncation of some DOC files on saving, unnecessary saving of files and cursor movement over newlines not working properly.

Great little program. Very convenience for reading regular text stored on the SD ram without having to convert it. Thank you for making it free.

The best text editor for the Palm I know of. Small footprint and the perfect feature set for most uses. It really adds something to the usefulness of my PDA!

Very good tool! I had an old outliner database file, on my VFS card, that kept crashing my Palm and couldn't be opened. SiEd opened it as a binary file and let me dig out the information I needed, right where I was, without resorting to the desktop.

I love it. Everything is great. However, if it use the standard onscreen keyboard, it will be a perfect program. (Reason: Standard onscreen keyboard can be used to type foreign character such as Thai, Jap while Si-ed can type only English Char)

Really very cool and have many new fuctions. But it's a shame that such great app is not suit for chinese users.since users can type only by the little keyboard applied by sied,we chinese users can not even write a single word in chinese...... Why can't we use the input tool as we like? Hope to see such improvment,or i will try some other app instead.....

Looks and works great, but it doesn't support MessagEaseKB, so to me it is a little less useful than it could be. I don't see any reason for not supporting MEKB.

With my Palm M130, I'm still unable to record macros. It simply blocks all entries except stop.

Great tool. One issue is entering Chinese text: displays fine (copy/paste) with CJKOS installed, but SiEd blocks text entry because it pops up its own keyboard with no option switch to CJKOS input (default Palm behaviour). I would also suggest a feature to import from Memo.

I use this program all the time for coding websites as I come up with ideas. Works great with a folding keyboard. PHP, HTML, CSS, it's all basic text.

This is a GREAT ascii editor! It loads large files rather quickly too. Pitty it does not select an entire word when you double-tap it, like the defacto Palm standard. Besides that, a real must have for every Palm owner!

This software is the everyday word processor on my Palm. It gives two windows to work on two different documents. Use it with the AbiWord word processor (Abiword reads and writes non-encryted Palm doc files) to edit files back and forth between Windows computers and your Palm. The file encryption is pretty good, too. If you encrypt a file in SiEd and try to open it in another program, like Cspotrun, it crashes the computer :) In my view this crash is a feature. Thanks for the fine software.

To be able to save .txt file on my SD card is a wonderful feature when I don't card too much about formatting. What's important is putting my ideas down as soon as possible. The keyboard shortcuts are very helpful. Great product!

It's just the perfect test program.
