Description:
PalmKobo is a freeware, 360° scrolling, shoot-em-up game by Toby Gray.
It is based on XKobo by Akira Higuchi and Kobo Deluxe, an SDL port by David Olofson.
PalmKobo runs on Palm OS version 3.5 New Feature Set (or later) and requires 8-bit colour at 160x160 pixels.
One or more ports for earlier versions of the Palm OS and/or less colourful screens may be developed later if there is sufficient demand.
The object of the game is to destroy the fortresses by shooting their cores (a purple ball in the middle).
There are, of course, various obstacles on the way that must be overcome or destroyed, including asteroids and various enemy craft.
Only tested on a Visor Prism, but may work on other colour PalmOS (3.5 or later) platforms. This software is currently in a "pre-alpha" stage.
See the website at www.geocities.com/PalmKobo for further information.
Update Description:
Palm OS 5 alpha release. PalmKobo has now been tested on a Palm Tungsten T and has support for the 5-way navigator.

This game is awesome! It goes a little fast (which is why there are bad reviews) but on my Zire 71 it works amazingly!!! While there is no HighRes support, who needs it if it works, and looks great without it! Random enemies keep you playing! Very addictive!

Sure, the controls may take a while to get used to, but once you get used to them, it's AWESOME! This game has excelent gameplay and it's very original. It does support 5-way navigation, and it's a neat feature, but I prefer to use a different key config to make it a little easier.

I would agree with the first review - the graphics are colourful but playability is almost nil.
There are two problems:
1) It's very hard to use the middle four keys for directions while using the outer keys as fire keys.
2) You can only move straight up, down, or sideways, making it hard to line up with things.
This game would probably be excellent if you could steer in any direction, and control movemement with a pen leaving a thumb free for a fire button.

Pretty good graphics, but it's impossible to play in version 0.1. Once you push a button to move the ship, it is impossible to stop, and it moves too fast to easily navigate. No sound. Good one to keep an eye on--if development continues, it will probably be a good game some day.
