Description:
ScrollBar5 slows down the rapid PalmOS 5.x scroll bars to a more usable rate.
ScrollBar5 is a 68k app but is only supported on PalmOS 5.x.
The speed of the scroll bars are configurable but the default values should give the best results for most users.
ScrollBar5 is not needed on the Treo 600 or any device using PalmOS 5.4 or greater.
App list. This is used to select a list of apps to either enable or disable (based upon the activation options in the Preferences).
Activation options in the Preferences. This is used to selectively disable and enable this preference panel.
- Enable all apps. ScrollBar5 is always enabled.
- Disable all apps. ScrollBar5 is always disabled.
- Disable for app list. ScrollBar5 is enabled for all apps except for those in the app list.
- Enable for app list. ScrollBar5 is disabled for all apps except for those in the app list.
Optimal performance. For best performance, use the app list and activation options to disable ScrollBar5 when executing games or other event intensive (graphics) applications.
Left handed scrollbar option moves a "right handed" vertical scrollbar to the left hand side of the screen.
Options.
- Enabled. Enables or disables this option.
- Safe mode. Safe mode only moves the scrollbar to the left hand side for relatively simple forms.
- Landscape. Enables some extra code for landscape (T3 and Tapwave only) support. This may cause some flickering of the screen because of the extra redraws (since the app may also move the scrollbar).
Notes: This preference will not work with
- apps that use hardcoded coordinates or custom drawing code,
- apps that dynamically create scrollbars after the form is loaded, and
- some landscape PalmOS devices. The main reason some apps don't work with this option is that app developers aren't expecting that another app (ScrollBar5) will come in and change the layout of their form.
It's like if someone changed the layout of your living room without telling you. You might find your sofa (in its new position) or you could accidentally fall on the foor (because you didn't notice the sofa was moved).
Update Description:
Version 2.0 (7/2/2004):
- Added left handed scrollbar option.
Version 1.3 (5/1/2004):
- Added activation option to selectively enable or disable this preference panel while a user specified list of apps (up to 20) are executing.
- This is for use with games or other apps that don't use scrollbars but are event (usually graphics) intensive.
- This is also useful if you like the faster scrollbars for some apps
ScrollBar5 v1.2 (4/24/2004):
- This update is only for Garmin iQue devices. Added support to slow down the Garmin iQue thumbwheel. Select the Options->Garmin iQue menu to set the configuration options for the thumbwheel.
SrollBar5 v1.1 (3/15/2004):
- Changed from an application to a preference panel. This is to reduce the amount of clutter seen in the Launcher.

This app does not work properly on my Tungsten C. If I open the app and then close it, then it works, but the next time I turn on the Palm, the scrollbars are back to full speed unless I open and close Scrollbar5 again. Sigh. Is there any solution?

VERY useful, and very well done, and something that Palm definitely overlooked. Thanks much for making it free! BTW, this works great on my Zire 71, even though you state it's for the T|T.

Switch5 is an excellent update and enhancement of Phlegm/SwitchHack for OS5, and yet another well-written essential OS5 utility from Mark Tamura--they are all worth a look.

Like most of Mark Tamura's applications, ScrollBar5 is indispensible and stable.

Thank you for correcting this oversight by palm. It was one of the few things that was frustrating me with my new T3.

This app. perfectly hits the mark. I discovered it by accident, tried it and it did exactly what it says, It was greatly needed. I am extremely grateful to the developer for his efforts. Palm missed this one, and it is a royal pain to get to the right place with the scroll bars on my new T3. This program made it simple, just like Palm should have.
